Now in its 8th season of operation, Racing for a Cure has become one of the most exciting fundraising events in Canada. 100% of donations go to support the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation and provide the opportunity for current Stollery patients to ride “shotgun” in one of the many super cars and helicopters. This event has left the indelible mark of ear-to-ear grins on riders and revelers alike!
The weekend’s events kicked off on Friday; Drivers first gathered at Mercedes Benz Edmonton on Friday afternoon for a thorough detailing before applying their numbered decal kits, while volunteers and RFAC organizers assembled and branded the Drivers Paddock and festivities at the Legislative Grounds.
Race Day began at the Villeneuve Airport, North West of Edmonton, where Stollery Co-Pilots boarded the waiting Synergy Aviation choppers for an aerial tour of the city. Upon landing, Co-Pilots paired up with their Super Car drivers and hit the road for an hour-long drive through Edmonton, into the Downtown core and onto the Alberta Legislative grounds for their Racing for a Cure “Show & Shine.” Once on the Leg Grounds, Co-Pilots, attending children and their families were treated to a variety of free activities and live music throughout the afternoon, including trampolines, rock climbing, face painting, and music from the D.S. McKenzie Junior High Jazz Band!
The evening fundraiser event and auction hosted by the River Cree Resort, Mr. Mikes Steakhouse Casual(Bonnyville), & Maserati Alfa Romeo of Edmonton, was nothing short of breath-taking. Synergy Aviation managed to shoehorn one of their helicopters INTO the Gala space along with 4 pristine super cars from Lamborghini of Calgary & Ferrari of Alberta!
Nearly $100,000 was raised this year from the Auction, Driver fundraising, and donations prior to, and during, this day-long event!
To-date, Racing for a Cure has been responsible for over $2.7 Million donated for research, facilities, tools and direct care of sick children in Alberta. Truly an incredible endeavour and cause that is creating life-long memories for everyone involved. Many thanks to the Christiansen family for including Cowan and all of the sponsors to make RFAC 8 such a success!
